Grammy Fashion Wrap Up

February 2nd, 2010 § 0

You know, after the disaster's at Clive's party (that's right, we're on a first name basis) I was rather worried about the actual Grammy's red carpet, but I gotta say it wasn't too bad.  I mean, of course people f'ed up, but some people really looked good too.  Check'em out.

You know I hate even posting a pic of this one, because it further establishes her as someone to talk about, but c'mon, how pathetic is this ensemble?  I mean, just look at that ridiculous face.  And, hello, a form fitting dress when you have a spare tire like suburban Jersey dad?  Spanx Snooki, ever heard of'em?

This isn't my favorite dress, but I appreciate Rihanna's style, so I'm gonna support her on it.  And is her sassy shaved do' growing on anyone else too?

This dress ins't my favorite either, but it's a pretty look on a pretty girl, so why fight it?  I do think the fight around the bust area is a bit strange though, but gosh darnit she's cute.

Does anyone else see the resemblance between Beyonce's tastefully fitted gown and Mariah's paean to her own (fake)boobs?  Isn't amazing how similar two gowns can be, yet so completely different.  I'm gonna guess it really depends on who's wearing the gown, and, of course, the size of her globes.

Wait, wasn't Britney on a come back?  Wasn't she doing so well, and actually looking kinda good, relatively speaking?  What, o-what, happened here then?  I mean is this a fishnet body over a black swimsuit or what?  Maybe I should look into getting her a fashion conservatorship, they have those right?

Not everyone loved this, and such is the sartorial life of the Gaga.  Always provocative, hardly boring and never easy to agree upon.  But my friend Lisa is in love, love, love with this Armani number, and I kinda like it too.  Usually Gaga is so costumey, but I like that this is actually fashion that she's wearing.  The only thing I don't like is that awful draggy wig she has on, I mean look at the clearly deleniated line around the scalp.  Bad Gaga, bad.

Ciara, you are so barely worth my time, but I just gotta say, you looked awful at Clive's (still first name BFF's) and you look just as awful at the Grammy's, and both attempts wreak of desperate press grabbing antics.

This look on Lea Michele of GLEE fame is pretty much my fave of the night.  What I really love about it is she learned from her last mistake.  Lea wore an admittedly gorgeous Oscar de la Renta gown to the Globes, but it was entirely age inappropriate, as you can see in this current look, Lea is young, fun, and stacked with a fantastic pair of legs.  Bravo sister!

Roger Federer totally deserves at least two crowns..

If not 16 to go with his jaw dropping 16 Grand Slam titles.  I actually stayed up till 4am to watch him win live.  Totally worth it.  Does it get any more perfect than him?  Congrats Fed!

If this is just the pre-Grammy party…..

January 31st, 2010 § 0

Then I'm super scared for what fashion disasters await at tonight's actual Grammy event.  These are selected pics from Clive Davis' legendary pre-Grammy party.  They are pretty much all bad, except for one kinda ok look.  What do you think?  Scared just like me?

Mya what are you thinking?  The basic part of this dress probably wouldn't be bad if it were cocktail length, but coupled with the awful sheer overlay, it has an oddly inappropriate  maternity feel.  Unless, of course, Mya is actually pregnant, in which case, she totally has that preggers glow.

I sadly have to admit I have Tik Tok is on my Iphone, and I listen to it semi-frequently.  That said however, Ke$ha, you do not get a pass for this stupid look.  Has anyone noticed Ms K is almost always in the same black, over accessorized outfit?  It always reads kinda upscale hooker to me, and not in a good way.

Good lord J-Hud what on earth were you ever thinking?  Uber-fitted purple leather with embellished shoulders?  No, no, no, no, NO!  I am not gonna love you in this no matter what you say.

Listen Ciara, I understand it must be rough to already be a fading sort-or been pop-star, and I swear I still listen to "Love & Sex & Magic" constantly, but none of that makes this pathetic attempt at media relevancy excusable.  Wearing recycled poodle fur with shorts on the red carpet will not revive what little career you had to begin with, so please 1,2 step off the carpet now.  Thanks.

You know, I've been mostly on board with Rihanna's fashion risk taking of late.  She really wants to be an individual on the red carpet, and in life in general, and I respect her direction.  That said, I'm not feeling this dress.  It's a little too "More is More" for my taste.  A bit of editing would have actually made this a fab ensemble, but I still like Rihanna for taking chances, and not in the Celine way.

At first glance I thought this was a passable ensemble, until I looked closer and realized this is not a full length dress but a jumpsuit.  Ugh, why oh why does Hollywood continue to pretend jumpsuits are  fashionable, much less flaterring.  Toni, honey, you are not makin' me high with this look, in fact, at best, you're making my hurl.

The one breath of fresh air is Taylor Swift.  While this isn't a fabulous, jaw dropping looking, in fact it sorta feels like everything else I've seen Taylor in; but at the very, and I me barely, least it's not a disaster.  Taylor looks cute and fun, although, for the life of me I don't know why she doesn't blow out her hair.  Totally way chic'er.

Screen Actor’s Guild Awards Fashion Review

The Screen Actor's Guild awards were last night, and I thought I'd do a little fashion wrap up of the red carpet.  First though, I have to give a huge shout out to my wonderful friend Lori Bergamotto.  She's a special correspondent at People magazine, and she was actually reporting live from the SAG's red carpet last night.  She truly is one of the best people you could ever know, and I'm perpetually lucky she remains not only my friend, but even let's me crash at her place.  Check out her behind the scenes video from the awards.

Now, onto the fashion.

This dress actually isn't that bad, but I'm still mad at Mimi from the Globes.  Although, I really shouldn't be mad at her, she did give me a lot of good fodder, but still.

Screen shot 2010-01-24 at 4.17.00 PMIt pains me to don't Sandra again because I do like her, and I really liked the Blind Side, both times I saw it.  In the theater.  But this dress is another complete misfire.  What is going on with the tinsel around the neckline?  Sandy, pookie, honey, I know you can do better.  You know you can do better.  You're a good looking, fit, A-lister.  Bring it.

Screen shot 2010-01-24 at 4.22.47 PMI really like this look on Marion Cotillard.  She's a cute girl, but I think sometimes she can age herself with what she chooses to wear, but not here.  This dress is young fresh, and even though it's a pale color, it plays beautifully off her skin tone.  Love it.

Screen shot 2010-01-24 at 4.21.23 PMWho let's Patricia Arquette on the red carpet?  Or any Arquette for that matter?

Screen shot 2010-01-24 at 4.20.16 PMThis is another tough one because I am totally devoted to Tina Fey and the irreverant genius that is 30 Rock, but what I don't like here is how in between this dress is.  As in it's on it's way to being a red carpet worthy dress, but it's still too cocktail for the importance of the evening.

Screen shot 2010-01-24 at 4.19.46 PMCarey Mulligan is a rising movie star, and if you saw last month's Vogue, she's a budding fashion star as well.  I have to concur here with this gorgeous Lanvin number.  I like the color and the left of expected drape.

Screen shot 2010-01-24 at 4.20.46 PMYou know JT, I think you're fab and all, but you're no actor, so you should be thanking your lucky stars actual Actors invited you.  So what do you do when you get there?  Where a blah suit with a DENIM tuxedo shirt?  Don't hold your breath for next year's invite buddy.

You know, it's not that I hate Diane Kruger's dress, but does anyone else feel like it's a sad imitation of Michelle Williams' gorgeousness from the 2006 Oscars?  Right down to the bright red lips.

Screen shot 2010-01-24 at 4.08.47 PM

By far the best of the evening is Christina Applegate.  The fit, the color, the pleating detail.  All perfection.

Screen shot 2010-01-24 at 4.21.51 PMSadly, the worst of the evening is Joan Allen.  Great lady, love her.  But, really?  You saw that necklace and thought " this would be perfect!"  I mean really?

Me on AM NW

January 18th, 2010 Comments Off

AM Northwest was nice enough to let come on their show and blather on about the best and worst dressed from the Golden Globes.  I hit Mariah pretty hard, at least for me, but c'mon, she deserved it.  Overall I wasn't too excited about any of the fashion, nothing really really good, but some ok looks.  Take a look and let me know what you think.

As for the awards.  Does anyone else thing the major categories at the Oscars are going to be a carbon copy of the Globes?  Think about it.
