Fashion’s Night Out: The Pics

September 24th, 2010 § Comments Off § permalink

Ok, you're probably sick and tired of my FNO posts, but it was such a fun event, and I just keep getting more things in about it.  I know have pics of all the runway looks, so I thought I'd post them, and put a little bit about each look to go along with them.

So in case you missed the show, here it is in the order it ran.  Also, all the pics were taken by Darren Utt Photography.  Darren's a friend of mine and great budding photographer.

Jillian is rocking this fab orange look from Mercantile.  It's one of my favorite looks from the show, which is why I opened with it.  And note, those boots are Chanel.  Real Chanel.

I love this look from Banana Republic as well.  I think it's layered really well.  Although, truth be told, they actually had one more layer with it that I took out.  It was one layer too many!

I'm becoming repetitive already, but I loved this look too from Michael Allen Clothier.  I really want this shirt for myself.  I love that it's plaid, but dressy.

How great is this moment with the hair?  She rocked this look from Covet, and those wood shoes are not easy to walk in.

Here's a good behind the scenes reveal.  This skirt from Pendleton, while cute, was crazy long, especially on this girl who is somewhat petite by model standards.  So, I had to hike this skirt up to have it make sense.  The top of the skirt was literally pinned into her bra.  But you can't really tell, can you?

Tanner wasn't sure how to show off this coat from Macy's.  So for the first couple of passes he would get to the end of the runway, and they flip the coat open like he was a flasher.  I advised him that was probably not the best, and as you can see here, he's a model who can adapt.

Isn't Aimee just gorgeous?  Tall, bright blue eyes, gorgeous hair, pretty freckles.  I just adore her.  Oh, and I like her look from Covet as well.

Truth be told, on the hanger this Betsey Johnson look was not wowing me, but Jacquelien really worked it out.

Doesn't Ross look super charming in his GAP look here?  And doesn't he have the fullest head of red hair you've ever seen?  Hopefully that will be passed on to his lovely baby girl Tabor, who was born like three weeks before FNO and I got to meet that night.

Nordstrom was the only retailer to cast their models directly, with zero input from me.  But, as you can see by how gorgeous Heather is, Nordstrom knew what they were doing.

This was Camille's first show ever, and with a little bit of learning from Cholee Thompson, a true pro, Camille rocked Brooks Brothers.

Doesn't Andres just personify the term swarthy?  He's a 40 reg but with a teeny tiny 30" waist.  I'd like to hate him for that, but he was a nice guy and a real professional who looked great in Mario's.

Here's a good bit of honesty.  Pendleton was supposed to be showcasing their fab Opening Ceremony collaboration, but it didn't arrive in time, which was a shame.  That said, Adazoe really, really worked this look, she was off the charts good!

I wasn't sure what we'd get from Ann Taylor, but I loved this look.  And can you believe Megan has a kid???

Another very layered look from Banana Republic, but I think it worked.  I loved putting the scarf inside his jacket with it hanging out.  Fun styling bit.

OMG how absolutely insane are Tiffany's legs?  This is another first time walker who did a fabulous job.  But when you're in short shorts and your legs make up 2/3 of your body, you kind of have an advantage.

I hope this isn't misconstrude, but it's hard to find tall Asian female models, especially good ones.  Kristi totally fits that bill, she was so sweet and fun to work with.  Loved her in GAP.

Madeleine is another first timer who needs to work on smiling whilst walking, but otherwise I loved her.  She is in high school, so she had to bring her bola tie clad grandpa with her as a chaperone.  So adorable in Mario's.

Katie is one of those genetic anomalies.  Just perfect.  From the moment she came into the casting I was like "We have to have her for this show!"  She worked her Macy's look out.

During rehearsals a homeless man came up to Joaquin, shook his hand and said, "I love your look.  In a down economy like this, we need more people who look like you."  I swear to god that's true.  I think Michael Allen Clothier agrees.

Mercantile sent another hot look down the runway, on another hot Asian chick.  Next year I'd love even more diversity.

Ugh, I am still plautzing over Kassi.  She is 6' of pure modeling heaven in Radish Underground.  So fab, and nice.  She drove all the way down from Seattle just to partake, gotta love that.

I'd like to say that Jonnie is amazing and one of the best models of the entire show... but that would only make his head bigger, and he's fine in that department.  Looks great in Brooks Brothers though.

Kaylee is totally beautiful but it's her eyebrows I truly love.  At the casting I was like, "Don't ever let anyone tell you to thin them.  EVER!"  I'm an eyebrow guy.

This is Betsey Johnson working it right.  The delicate volume and color playing off the harsher tuxedo jacket.  Love it.  And, FYI, Cara is the reigning Miss Teen Oregon.

OMG, this is Holly, the personal stylist at Nordstrom, totally outdoing herself.  I loved the look on the hanger, but then with the stockings.  To quote that ridiculous Rachel Zoe "I die."  This obviously had to be the closer.

And that is my run down of Fashion's Night Out 2010.

Fashion’s Night Out: Behind the Scenes

September 13th, 2010 § 1 comment § permalink

Fashion's Night Out has come and gone, and I think it was a huge success.  In case you don't know exactly what it is, Fashion's Night Out was started last year by Vogue as a way to get people out and help the retail economy.  It was a hit in NYC, and this year they franchised it all over the world, and Portland joined the club.

I was in charge of producing the fashion shows for the evening, which was just one layer of a very engaging event for shoppers put on by the city of Portland.  Basically, 14 downtown retailers provided two looks each for a fashion show that occurred five times over two hours in Director Park.  I cast, styled, coordinated and produced that entire aspect, and I am proud to say it went off flawlessly.

I wish I had some juicy gossip for you, but honestly all the models showed up on time, if not early, hair and makeup were brilliant and efficient, and the crowds at the park were welcoming and enthusiastic.  You know with all the loco people in this town, not having an issue at a public event in a park is quite rare.  So, I guess just check it out for yourself:

So, I didn't really make it clear in the last entry that I was in fact producing and styling the fashion shows for Fashion's Night Out.  It was a big responsibility, and a lot to organize, but I gotta say, the show(s) went off pretty much flawlessly.  Everyone from the hair and makeup to the models to the assistants and volunteers all did a fantastic job.  I'll write more about that when I post my behind the scenes vid, but I wanted to clarify that point.

Anyway, the night of the event, KGW came out to do a quick feature and I was asked at the last minute to do a quick interview.  Which is why I have zero makeup on and my talking points aren't quite as polished as I would normally like.  That said, so happy KGW came out to support us, and Fashion's Night Out in Portland was a tremendous success that I was lucky to have a small little role in.  Check out the Live at 7 clip:

Fashion’s Night Out: Portland Style

The Vogue sponsored event Fashion's Night Out is coming to Portland this Friday September 10th, and I'm producing the fashion show for it, which is very exciting.  In addition to that, I did some TV recently to help promote the event.

The lovely people at Studio 6 on KOIN TV invited me and some of my model friends to talk about the event and preview some of the looks for the fashion show.  Unfortunately they don't have embedding capabilities, so I can only link to the segment.  Check it out if you can by clicking on their logo below.

If you're in Portland, make sure you head downtown to check out Fashion's Night Out Friday September 10th.  For more info on the event go to  www.downtownportland.org

Urbanmamas closet’s get exorcised!

August 25th, 2010 § 1 comment § permalink

The vitaminwater zero project continues.  This time I finally get up close and personal with the three founders of the fantastic website urbanmamas.  Olivia, Hau and Sarah are each brilliant, busy ladies who have three kids apiece, and still find time to create this website/blog that is a super useful resource for tons of other mamas in the area.  I seriously don't know how they do it all.

However, as you will see from the video, one thing that has lapsed a bit in their lives is each mama's respective style quotient, which makes sense.  As devoted moms, these women always put their kids first, which is as it should be, but that does not mean they should never take time for themselves to feel pretty or pulled together.  I am a firm believer that occasionally making yourself feel good as a individual, makes you a better person and in turn a better, more fulfilled parent.

I'm not saying long days at the spa, or countless afternoons on shopping sprees, but as I mention in these videos, just making small little decisions to better yourself each day can have a huge chain reaction effect.  So sit back, get comfortable, and watch 10 minutes of my brilliance that of course starts out with the most fashionable reference in all the land:  A Turducken.
